Combining abilities analysis for ear rot resistance in popcorn hybrids development

چکیده
Ear rot caused by fungi of genus Fusarium (FER) is one the potentially harmful diseases to grain quality in maize. Given capacity produce mycotoxins, FER presents a risk food safety. This study sought identify parents and indicate hybrids popcorn with higher level resistance incidence severity FER. Hybrids were produced from crossing 15 lines S7 generation 5 testers. The hybrids, together five more genotypes used as control, evaluated field trial. It was randomized block design arranged 10 x lattice. Data submitted analysis variance F test (p < 0.05) then mean grouping Scott Knott 0.05). results showed possible explore new sources among germplasm evaluated. Both additive non-additive gene effects are important resistance. To obtain gains resistance, development should consider use parental low means good general combining ability.

Prospecting of popcorn hybrids for resistance to fall armyworm.
The fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda, is the pest that causes the greatest economic losses for both common corn and popcorn crops, and the use of resistant plant genotypes is an important tool for integrated pest management. The goal of the present study was to evaluate the damage caused by S. frugiperda on single-cross popcorn hybrids under field conditions with natural infestation as well...
متن کاملAnalysis of general and specific combining abilities of popcorn populations, including selfed parents
Estimation of general and specific combining ability effects in a diallel analysis of cross-pollinating populations, including the selfed parents, is presented in this work. The restrictions considered satisfy the parametric values of the GCA and SCA effects. The method is extended to self-pollinating populations (suitable for other species, without the selfed parents). The analysis of changes ...
متن کاملGenetic of resistance to ear rot causal agent (Fusarium moniliforme) in quality protein maize (QPM) using line×tester analysis
Breeding for QPM ear rot resistant cultivars could offer a reliable environmental and economic control of mycotoxins especially for the resource-poor communities that require inexpensive protein diets. This research aims at evaluating a testcross of QPM inbreds with ear rot resistant cultivars to develop resistant topcrosses with high grain protein quality and yield. Seven QPM inbreds (lines) a...
متن کاملMolecular Basis of Resistance to Fusarium Ear Rot in Maize
The impact of climate change has been identified as an emerging issue for food security and safety, and the increased incidence of mycotoxin contamination in maize over the last two decades is considered a potential emerging hazard. Disease control by chemical and agronomic approaches is often ineffective and increases the cost of production; for this reason the exploitation of genetic resistan...
متن کاملDiallel Analysis of Resistance to Fusarium Ear Rot and Fumonisin Contamination in Maize
The fungus Fusarium verticillioides infects maize (Zea mays L.) ears and kernels, resulting in Fusarium ear rot disease, reduced grain yields, and contamination of grain with the mycotoxin fumonisin. Hybrid maize breeding programs involve selection for both inbred and hybrid performance; the emphasis placed on inbred versus hybrid selection depends on heritability of and the genetic correlation...
